Critics' Award (1990)

The jury of the award of the German record critics Association awards Jost Gebers the Certificate of Honour 1990 for his long-standing commitment as producer of Jazz records.

For more than two decades Jost Gebers has been in charge of Free Music Production (FMP) which was founded in 1969 by Free Jazz musicians, in an energetic and unselfish manner; he has not only developed an alternative Jazz program but has also, through concert series, workshops and ultimately through the production of some two hundred records, kept improvised music alive and given it its own essential European accent. His documentation of the activities of the American pianist Cecil Taylor in Berlin in 1988 represents an outstanding publishing achievement in this area.
