FMP (1990)

Having been producing records for 20 years, in 1989 we decided to bring out all future releases only in the form of compact discs.

Due to repeated inquiries concerning this decision, varying from unbelieving to indignant, we would like to explain our point of view here in short.

Above all we had to realize that the quality (in terms of production) of the records had not exactly increased over the past 20 years. Moreover, two big advantages which the compact disc shows compared with conventional records played an outstanding role for our decision:

Firstly there is the considerably extended playing time of the CD, which for the first time makes it possible for us to publish coherent musical processes in a coherent and uncut version.

Secondly dynamics coming up very close to the original which exceed the possibilities of the medium record by far make it no longer necessary to narrow the recordings down drastically.

In order to make use of above advantages also in retrospect, we will additionally bring out specific older LP-releases on compact disc in the future.
