another scene?

Free Concert at Townhall

Another traditional FMP event going back to the early days is the yearly Free Concert in Rathaus Charlottenburg, which was interrupted temporarily starting in1979, but reinstated in the mid-eighties. As this publication goes to press, the working title of the 1988 Free Concert, scheduled for September 22, is “Another Scene?”. In keeping with this concept, musicians know for their cross-over abilities will be playing in combinations that may well give your ears a good shock.

Caspar Brötzmann, whose booming, at times almost orgiastic, guitar-playing is highly valued in the independent rock-scene, will be juxtaposed with a string quartet led by Klaus Wilmanns; the Duo Lars Rudolph/David Gattiker (Trumpet, Cello, Voices, and Electronics) will share one portion of the program with the percussionist Peter Hollinger. Another theme this year is the accordion, and on that front we’ll be hearing Santrra, the minimalistic singer – likewise coming from the so-called Indie-Scene, as well as the duo Sven-Åke Johansson/Rüdiger Carl. Incidentally, “Free concert” is more than just a pun: as is traditional with FMP, there’s no entrance fee to this event.
